Welcome to the Double Maîtrise
Website, updated for 2008!
The
Course
The Double Maîtrise course itself was established in 1999, the
first students graduating in 2003. Essentially, the course provides
you with a degree in English Law, and another degree in French Law (Maîtrise
en droit). The course itself is four years long, being divided into
two years of study at Cambridge, and a further two years at
Université de Paris II, Assas-Panthéon.
As the European Union expands on a daily basis, so does its
influence in the legal systems of member states. Being equipped with
legal knowledge from two legal systems (and hopefully by the end of
the course a fluency in both French and English) gives you superb
credentials when being considered for future employment. The
importance of such qualifications is recognised by one of leading
law firms in the world, Clifford Chance, who very generously sponsor both the Double
Maîtrise course, and this association.
For a more detailed overview of the components of the course, and
information relating to the standard BA in Law, see the
Cambridge Law Faculty Website.
The Association
The DMA
was established in 2003, with a view to achieve several main
goals. The first and most important of these was to provide
current and prospective students with a network of
information, support and help. The second was to organise
and co-ordinate events and socials to create a more
friendly, cohesive and close group.
It functions to promote a friendly, close-knit and
welcoming group to all those arriving at Cambridge. Finally, to
promote the course itself and increase awareness of the vast
opportunities it offers.
We hope that all of the information on this site is useful
and provides a valuable resource. If you have any
questions, please contact us.
Best wishes, The DMA team.
